Bella the Brave Firefly
In a meadow full of fireflies lived the tiniest firefly of all, and her name was Bella.
Every night the fireflies rose up and lit their lanterns, filling the dark with dancing golden light. But Bella’s light was small — so small — just a soft little glimmer, while the others blazed bright.
“My light is too little to matter,” Bella sighed, and she hid in the tall grass.
Then, from deep in the grass, came a tiny worried voice. It was a little beetle, lost and frightened. “It’s so dark,” he wept. “I can’t find my way home, and the big lights are too far above me to see.”
Bella looked at her small glow. Up high, it was nothing. But down here, in the grass, close beside the beetle — it was just enough.
“Follow me,” said Bella. “I’ll light the path.”
And step by step, glimmer by glimmer, Bella guided the little beetle through the grass, around the pebbles, over the roots — all the way home to his cozy burrow.
“Thank you,” said the beetle. “Your light was exactly the right size.”
Bella glowed a little brighter then — not with her lantern, but with happiness.
She flew back to the meadow and took her place among the others, and though her light was still the smallest of all, she never once thought it was too little again.
The end. 🐞
