Squeaky the Mouse's Quiet Adventure
When the big house grew dark and everyone was fast asleep, a little mouse named Squeaky crept out from his cozy hole for a quiet adventure.
Tip… tip… tiptoe. Squeaky was very, very quiet, so he wouldn’t wake anyone.
First he tiptoed across the kitchen floor, where a single crumb of cheese waited just for him. Nibble, nibble. Delicious.
Then he tiptoed past the fireplace, where the last soft embers glowed warm and orange, like tiny sleepy suns.
Then he tiptoed up the stairs — one, two, three — and peeked into the nursery. There, in a little bed, a child lay sleeping, breathing slow and soft. In… out… in… out.
The whole house was hushed and calm. The clock ticked gently. The moon poured silver light through the windows. Everything was peaceful and still.
Squeaky yawned a tiny mouse yawn. All this quiet had made him sleepy too.
So he tiptoed back down the stairs, back across the kitchen, and into his snug little hole, where a bed of soft cotton was waiting.
He curled into a tiny ball, no bigger than a walnut, and closed his eyes.
“Goodnight, quiet house,” whispered Squeaky.
And he slept, safe and warm, until morning.
The end. 🐭
