Star Catcher Sam
Sam had a little brother named Leo, and Leo was sick in bed and feeling sad.
“I wish I could see the stars,” Leo sighed, looking out his window at the cloudy sky. “But the clouds are always in the way.”
Sam thought and thought. And then she had an idea. “I’ll catch you a star,” she said. “A real one. Just for you.”
That night, when the sky was clear, Sam packed a jar and set off up the tallest hill in the whole village — up and up, past the sleeping sheep, past the old windmill, all the way to the very top, where the stars hung close and bright.
She reached up on her tiptoes. She stretched as high as she could. And there — just as she wished — a tiny falling star came streaking down, and landed softly in her open jar.
Glow! The little star shimmered inside the glass, warm and golden.
Sam ran all the way home, cradling the jar close. She crept into Leo’s room and set the glowing star on his windowsill.
Leo’s eyes went wide with wonder. The whole room filled with soft, gentle starlight, dancing on the ceiling like magic.
“You caught me a star,” he whispered. “The most beautiful star in the world.”
And though Sam had climbed the tallest hill and could have kept the star all for herself, she had never in her life felt happier than she did giving it away.
The two of them fell asleep together, wrapped in the warm glow of one small, shared star.
The end. 🌟
