The Cloud Who Wanted to Be a Blanket
Up in the bright blue sky floated a little cloud named Puff, and Puff had one big wish: she wanted to be useful.
“The rain clouds water the flowers,” she said. “The big clouds make cool shade. But what can a small soft cloud like me do?”
She drifted and wondered all day long.
Then, slowly, the sun went down. The sky turned pink, then purple, then deep velvety blue. And down below, the whole world began to yawn.
Puff watched the little animals curling up. The rabbits burrowed. The birds tucked their heads under their wings. The children climbed into their beds.
And Puff had an idea.
Ever so gently, she spread herself out — wide and soft and puffy — until she stretched across the whole evening sky like a great big cozy quilt.
“There,” she whispered. “Now the whole world has a blanket.”
Below her, everyone snuggled a little deeper. The stars peeked out through her soft edges like tiny nightlights. And the sleepy world felt warm and safe, tucked in beneath the softest cloud-blanket of all.
Puff smiled and grew still.
“Goodnight, world,” she whispered. “Sleep tight.”
And she was useful, after all — the coziest little cloud in the whole wide sky.
The end. ☁️
