The Fox Who Forgot How to Yawn

There once was a little fox named Finn who was always, always busy. He ran and pounced and played all day — and when night came, he simply didn’t know how to slow down.

“I don’t feel sleepy at all!” said Finn, zooming in circles. “I think I’ve forgotten how to yawn!”

His friends in the forest decided to help.

The rabbit came first. “Watch me,” she said, and she stretched her long legs out — loooong — and wiggled her nose. Finn tried it. He stretched his paws out long. “Oh,” he said. “That felt nice.”

Next came the deer. “Take a slow, deep breath,” she said, “like you’re smelling a flower.” Finn breathed in slowly… and let it out. His shoulders dropped. “Ohh,” he said. “That felt nice too.”

Last came the wise old badger. “Now,” he rumbled, “close your eyes halfway, open your mouth wide, and let out the biggest, sleepiest yawn you can.”

Finn opened his mouth… and a great enormous yawn came rolling out. Haaaaawn.

And then another. And another.

“There it is!” laughed the badger. “You remembered.”

Finn’s eyes grew heavy. His legs felt soft and floppy. He curled his bushy tail around himself like a warm blanket and yawned one last cozy yawn.

“Thank you, friends,” he murmured.

And the little fox who forgot how to yawn slept all the way through till morning.

The end. 🦊
