The Littlest Owl's First Night

High in an old oak tree, a baby owl named Ollie woke up as the sun went down. Tonight was special. Tonight was her very first night awake — because owls, you see, are awake when the rest of the world sleeps.

But the forest looked so big and so dark.

“I’m a little scared,” Ollie whispered to her mother.

“That’s alright,” her mother said warmly. “Let me introduce you to the night.”

They spread their soft wings and glided out together. And one by one, Ollie met the gentle friends of the dark.

There was the cricket, singing his slow, sleepy song. Chirp, chirp. “That’s a lullaby for the whole forest,” said her mother.

There was the firefly, blinking his tiny lantern. Blink, blink. “He lights the way for anyone who’s lost.”

There was the breeze, rustling through the leaves. Shhh, shhh. “That’s the forest breathing, slow and calm, just like you.”

Ollie listened. The cricket sang, the firefly glowed, the breeze whispered — and suddenly the dark didn’t feel scary at all. It felt like a big, soft, friendly blanket wrapped around the whole world.

“I like the night,” Ollie said.

“So do I,” said her mother, pulling her close. “Now — shall we watch the stars until morning?”

And they did, two owls in an old oak tree, cozy and brave together.

The end. 🦉
