The Rainbow Fish Who Shared His Shimmer
In the warm blue sea lived a little fish named Marlin, and Marlin had the most beautiful scales of all — every color of the rainbow, shimmering like sunlight on the water.
The other fish gathered around to admire him. “How lovely you are!” they said.
Marlin liked being admired. But at the end of the day, when everyone swam home, Marlin was always alone. Beautiful — but alone.
One evening, a small grey fish drifted up. “You are so sparkly,” she said softly. “I’ve always wished I had just one shining scale.”
Marlin paused. He had so many. Would he really miss just one?
Gently, he loosened a single shimmering scale and gave it to her. It glimmered on her side like a tiny star, and her whole face lit up with joy.
Something warm bloomed in Marlin’s heart. He gave a scale to the next fish, and the next, until all around him the sea sparkled with little points of rainbow light.
Marlin had fewer scales now. But he wasn’t alone anymore — he was surrounded by friends, each one shining with a piece of his shimmer.
And as the sea grew dark and sleepy, the little fish drifted down together, glowing softly like a nightlight in the deep.
“Goodnight,” they bubbled.
And Marlin, cozy among his friends, had never felt so bright.
