The Unicorn Who Collected Dreams
When the whole town is asleep and the streets are quiet and blue, a silver unicorn named Moonmane comes trotting softly over the rooftops.
Her hooves make no sound at all. Her long mane glitters like a river of stars. And she has the loveliest job in the whole night sky: she collects dreams.
At the first window, a little boy is frowning in his sleep — a grumbly dream about a growly thing has crept in. Moonmane leans close, touches her horn gently to the glass, and whoosh — the grumbly dream lifts right out, tangles harmlessly in her mane, and is gone. In its place she leaves a new dream, warm and golden: a dream of pancakes as big as wagon wheels.
The little boy smiles in his sleep. Moonmane trots on.
At the next window, a girl is dreaming of being lost. Moonmane gathers that dream up too, and leaves a better one — a dream of being found, scooped up, and carried home on somebody’s shoulders.
Window by window, roof by roof, Moonmane gathers every scratchy, growly, worried dream in town — and leaves soft ones glittering on every pillow. Dreams of splashing. Dreams of birthday candles. Dreams of flying slow and low over summer grass.
And when her mane is heavy with all the gathered-up bad dreams, do you know what she does? She gallops high above the clouds, gives one great shake — and every bad dream bursts into harmless silver sparkles that drift away to nothing in the moonlight.
Then she whinnies once, softly, to the sleeping town below: Sweet dreams, little ones. I’m watching tonight.
So if you ever feel a smile arrive in the middle of your sleep — now you know. Moonmane came past your window, and she left something lovely on your pillow.
The end. 🦄
